About
My name is Maia Walkes, i’m a photographer based in NY/NYC. As I capture or create a scene, I try to make my work feel like a sense of place. A sense of place that contorts our perception of reality and our dreamspace. I’m inspired by surrealism and conceptual photography and try to have small features of them in my landscapes and portraits. When I'm trying to express an emotion or feeling through photography, I'm easily inspired by music, books, shows, and life.
However, before I capture a scene I always look for an anomaly that I can see with my eye that would be enhanced with my camera. My main goal is to capture and share a moment in time with others that is hidden unless acknowledged. To produce my creations I use a digital camera and frame my subject using the Rule of Thirds.
The Rule of Thirds has a major impact on my art style because it keeps you grounded to the scene as the subject plays with our perception. As I continue to move forward with my work, I hope the imagery conveys my experience while allowing a sense of place.
